Two new record prices and breed record averages were set at Stirling Agricultural Centre for United Auctions' May Stirling Bull Sales this week, which saw local pedigree talent making a strong mark in both the show and sale rings.

The two-day event, sponsored by Galbraith, took place from Sunday (May 4) to Monday (May 5) and featured 244 pedigree cattle across seven breeds.

A new UK record price of 20,000gns for a pedigree Salers bull was achieved by Stirlingshire breeders Gill and Malcolm Pye, Rednock Estate, Port of Menteith for their overall champion Rednock Top Gun on Monday.

This record-breaking bid was taken by auctioneer Murray Steel and paid by PM & SM Donger, Seawell Grounds, Foxley, Towcester.

The Rednock herd also dominated the breed's pre-sale championship show during Sunday judging, securing both the record-breaking overall champion and the reserve overall champion, Rednock Topol.

Later in the sale, three more of the Rednock bulls went to new homes in Islay, Ayrshire and Aberdeenshire, including Rednock Underwater, Rednock Uzo and Rednock Ulysses, averaging 5,600gns.

Meanwhile, Dunblane-based breeder, D Murray Lyle, Mid Cambushinnie, achieved 6,800gns for his bull Strathallan Topgun. He sold to I & L Buchanan, Wee Carletone, Lendalfoot, Girvan.
