New head unveiled for visitor levy committee

Heritage Stirling's boasts many historic attractions

Paul Mooney (inset), who is responsible for managing the Apex Dunblane Hydro Hotel, has been appointed as the first Chair of the Stirling Visitor Levy Advisory Forum following a recruitment process.

Paul is currently Area General Manager for Apex Hotels, which includes responsibility for managing the Apex Dunblane Hydro Hotel, and has a wealth of experience in the Scottish tourism sector spanning 20 years.

He has held a number of senior leadership roles in the industry for the past 12 years, first at Cameron House Hotel and then for nine years at Apex Hotels, where his positions have included Deputy General Manager, Group Operators Support Manager and Dual Site General Manager. Paul's considerable knowledge and experience of working in leadership roles within the tourism industry and his strong track record in creating successful, collaborative working environments were among the reasons why he was identified as the ideal candidate for the role.

In May 2024, the Scottish Parliament passed the Visitor Levy (Scotland) Act which gave local authorities the ability to charge a set percentage on overnight accommodation paid by visitors and tourists.
