Crowning glory after journey of discovery
Stirling Observer
|April 30, 2025
It was all celebrations for Stirling County's stellar third XV after they completed a note-perfect season with an entertaining win over Waid Academy.
-
The Bridgehaugh club claimed the Caledonia Midlands Region League Division Three crown with the 48-42 victory, capping a season where they racked up a cracking 967 points despite playing just 14 matches.
That total was 330 points more than any other side in the table - and County also conceded the fewest points of any side, with just 180 scored against them in those games.
All of that adds up to a perfect campaign, with 14 wins from 14 matches.
The side are coached by Brian Ireland, a County legend who played for the club in the 1990sand he was left delighted with his team's showing after being asked for some reflections following the final whistle.
Brian said: “We set out on a journey of discovery at the start of this rugby season to find out what was possible to achieve with a new untested side in Division Three.
