MEENAKSHI HOSPITAL, THANJAVUR PERFORMS DELTA REGION'S FIRST SCOLIOSIS SURGERY WITH RETT SYNDROME

In a significant medical achievement for the delta region of Tamil Nadu, Meenakshi Hospital, Thanjavur, has successfully performed scoliosis surgery on a 12-year-old girl with Rett syndrome.

This marks the first time such an advanced procedure has been done in the delta region of Tamil Nadu. Following the surgery, the girl's posture improved, enhancing her appearance. She can now move more easily, and her breathing has also improved.

Scoliosis is a condition where the spine curves abnormally, and Rett syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that primarily affects girls and impacts brain development. The spinal curvature was causing the patient pain, breathing difficulties, and limited her movements, all worsened by her Rett syndrome. If left untreated, her scoliosis would have become more severe, further affecting her posture, obstructing the growth of internal organs such as the lungs, and intensifying her breathing problems.
