LOK SABHA DEBATES REPEALING AND AMENDING BILL, 2025

The government is expected to bring G RAM G Bill to replace MGNREGA, which is set to be introduced in the Lok Sabha during the ongoing Winter session of Parliament.

The Union Government on Monday (December 15, 2025) defended the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the Rajya Sabha and said the guiding principle for the exercise was universal adult franchise. During a discussion on electoral reforms, the Opposition, meanwhile, continued to attack the Centre over the SIR.

Leader of the House J.D. Nadda targets Congress, says their campaign against SIR has fallen flat and Bihar’s results have proven that.

"This Bill does not seem to make any amendments which benefit the people. This seems aimed more at rectifying the Centre's own legislative adventures," says Congress, noting that several repeals are of the NDA government.

EVMs were introduced during Rajiv Gandhi's era, says Leader of the House J.P Nadda. If you win, you are a victor, if you lose there are errors, how is this fair, he asks the Opposition.

Congress MP Digvijay Singh says that VVPAT was brought in only after a Supreme Court ruling, and they are asking to know what software is used for VVPAT, and that there are asking that instead of it dropping into the machine, it should be given in hand.

Mr. Nadda says that multiple VVPAT slips were matched to results and not even one mismatch was found. No one took up the challenge by the EC to show how the process could be rigged, he points out.

You want to go back to ballot box, but what happened with the elections of Kripalani and Ambedkar, he asks. I have seen how ballot boxes used to disappear, he says.
