Roberts opens up on struggle over past year
South Wales Evening Post
|June 09, 2026
CONNOR Roberts has described the ‘‘draining’’ emotions of his lost season following a year out of football.
Burnley defender Roberts played the final half-hour of Wales’ 2-1 friendly defeat to Romania on Saturday after being plagued by Achilles, groin and hamstring injuries.
It was his first appearance in senior football since Wales visited Belgium in World Cup qualifying action almost a year ago to the day on June 9, 2025.
In the meantime, Roberts watched on as Burnley were relegated from the Premier League and Wales saw their World Cup dream die through a play-off penalty shootout defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
‘‘It’s been very tough, the first long-term injury I’ve ever had,’’ said 30-year-old Roberts after winning his 64th cap in Bucharest.
