MP wants ‘maximum support’ to save car part supply jobs

URGENT calls are being made for Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) to ensure jobs in car component factories in Llanelli are saved as part of a £1.5 billion UK Government rescue deal.

JLR suspended production at its UK factories following a massive cyber attack on August 31, leaving suppliers locally and nationally in limbo.

A Labour Government backed loan is expected to give suppliers some certainty amid the continued shutdown.

JLR’s supply chain, which includes companies with factories in the Llanelli area, is understood to have been greatly affected by the shutdown.

On Monday, JLR announced some manufacturing operations would resume in the coming days as a phased restart began, with the first engine facility in Wolverhampton expected to be first to restart the week beginning October 6, with a phased return at other plants.

Llanelli MP Dame Nia Griffith is calling for jobs locally to be protected and said: “The situation was perilous and there was concern for jobs at a number of companies.
