Key things for Wales in Reeves' spending review

There have been hints that there will be rail funding, but even the First Minister says she has no idea what to expect. Here, political editor Ruth Mosalski looks at the key issues for Wales

AT AROUND 12.30pm today, Chancellor Rachel Reeves will stand up in the House of Commons and announce her much awaited spending review, laying out the UK Government's spending plans for the next three years.

This review is particularly important for Wales as Welsh Labour tries to demonstrate what its long-held dream of a UK Labour government can deliver, especially in the countdown to next year's Senedd election.

Ms Reeves's spending review will set out the priorities of the UK Government as it reveals how money is divided up between the different government departments.

Since December, departments have been making their case and the final settlements were confirmed only this week.

Extra funding for rail

There is some expectation that Wales will get some extra funding for rail, which it is expected will be stations in the South of Wales.

Ken Skates, Wales's transport secretary, has hinted that funding for five stations in South-East Wales will be confirmed in Westminster next week.
