How radio show led to life-saving date with doctor

A MAN who was diagnosed with prostate cancer by chance after listening to a radio show featuring a campaigner talking about their own diagnosis, is urging people to get checked.

Neath man Anthony Dawe, 61, is making the call as new figures by Prostate Cancer UK show that prostate cancer has become the most common cancer in the UK for the first time.

The charity says more than 2,500 are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year in Wales and around 640 men die from it every year.

While it remains the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in Wales, Public Health Wales data shows a big increase in cases and predicts further rises. Between 2017 and 2019, there were 931 more prostate cancer cases each year compared to between 2002 and 2004. That's a 44% increase and if current trends continue, Prostate Cancer UK estimates there could be 4,244 prostate cancer cases every year by 2035.
