RESCUE dogs in centres across Wales who haven't had the best start in life so far are hoping they will finally find their forever homes for 2026.
Case studies have been shared of canines located at different rescue centres around the country in the hope of finding a perfect match.
Rescue centres work tirelessly to save and enrich the lives of dogs and other animals in their care all year round. But nothing pleases the rescue centre owners and volunteers more than the day when they get to rehome their four-legged friends and see them live out their days in happiness with their new owners.
Each pet comes with their own challenges and obstacles but each presents a perfect opportunity to add a valuable member to your family.
As look ahead to 2026 rescue centres across south Wales have, in their own words, profiled some of the dogs looking for a loving home and their own sofa to hog.

Royal
Age: One-year-old male Breed: Chow chow The rescue says: “Royal is a very special young chow chow who arrived at Many Tears from a breeder, frightened of almost everything and unsure about human touch. With gentle care and patience, he has already made wonderful progress and is slowly showing the sweet, affectionate boy he truly is.
“Each day his confidence grows a little more. He now greets his kennel mum with a wagging tail and has recently taken a huge step forward by learning to walk beautifully on the lead. He enjoys food, toys, and calm outdoor time, all of which help him relax and take in the world at his own pace.
“Royal gets along brilliantly with his kennel mates and relies on other dogs for reassurance, so he will need a kind, confident resident dog of a similar size in his new home to help guide him. As he has never lived in a home before, his adopters will need to be understanding as he learns about house training, routine, and everyday household life.
