Chef says closure of restaurant branch is 'devastating'

A POPULAR burger restaurant in Neath Port Talbot will soon be closing the doors to their first branch for the last time, not long after opening their new Swansea restaurant.

MAG Banwen has announced on social media that they will be closing their restaurant on Sunday, September 21, blaming a “crazy time in hospitality”.

The restaurant originally opened as The Meat & Greet Co, concentrating on event catering, weddings and markets in 2016 and 2017.

They then launched a popup at a local community cafe before taking full control of the venue in April 2018.

Over the next four-and-a-half years they built up the business to be a thriving destination restaurant, specialising in burgers, tacos and Sunday roasts, while also developing a loyal following of takeaway customers.

They have since featured in the Founders & Co food hall and now have opened a new venture in Swansea’s Parc Tawe, which launched in June, called Go MAG.

Chef and co-founder Geth Thomas shared the announcement on social media, saying: “We've been in Banwen seven-and-a-half years. It’s like my home. I’ve spent more time in the restaurant in Banwen than my own house.
