Simon Ngomane is one of the country's respected coaching instructors and part of the group that developed the South African coaching manual under the leadership of the late Ted Dumitru.
-
They were a group that developed a scientific method of training to suit the South African player. Yet despite his qualifications and in spite of his knowledge of the game, he has not been deeply involved until recently when an ambitious Eswatini Premier League club engaged him as their Sporting Director. In this interview with Soccer Laduma's Thomas Kwenaite, Ngomane reveals the drama and triumph of winning the championship in the Kingdom of Eswatini and what made Doctor Khumalo so special.
our players to the test and let them also be tested.
TK: How did you end up in Eswatini in the first place?
SM: I think soon after the humiliation at the hands of Stellenbosch in the CAF Confederation Cup (lost 8-0 on aggregate), they did an introspection and realised that there was something they were not dealing with adequately. The President did a little research, he said there is this new position in football they call Sporting Director. The President said we should look for a Sporting Director... somebody who will understand us; somebody who will know our environment and apparently Banele Ngobe (CEO) went into research and identified Abel Shongwe. They invited him to come over and wanted to offer him the position. They explained to him what they wanted him to do. Apparently "Chaklas" told them while flattered, he was nonetheless not the right person for the post.
TK: Oh wow, this is getting more interesting.

South Americans are very fragile
Last weekend we saw Orlando Pirates make history by becoming the first Carling Knockout champions to beat the All-Stars team, after both Magesi FC and Stellenbosch FC failed to do so in the previous two seasons. Pirates were forced to play without several of their regulars as they are in camp in preparation for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations. Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou's charges beat coach Manqoba Mngqithi's team 2-0 to be crowned champions, for the second time in a week. Congratulations to Bucs as they close the year on a high note.
