Tshwane to play for Sundowns’ rivals, who have not had a good season. In this interview with Soccer Laduma’s Tshepang Mailwane, the former Maritzburg United midfielder opens up about his decision to join Matsatsantsa a Pitori for the rest of the campaign and why he believes he still has a future at Chloorkop.

That was the right thing for me

There’s a whole lot of money in football, but what most footballers will tell you is that spending time on the pitch is what matters most. For Lebohang Maboe, it was important to get game time, which is why he asked Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso to release him on loan for an opportunity to get regular game time. SuperSport United showed the most interest, and he was more than happy to make a move across

Tshepang Mailwane: Hola Lebza, we are delighted to have a chat with you this week. Let's get straight into it. In January, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso revealed that you asked to go out on loan. Give us insight into your decision.

Lebohang Maboe: Thank you. As footballers, the only place we find joy and where we really want to be is on the pitch to express our talent. If you do not get to do that as often as you would like, it doesn't sit well with you. (Go out on loan) was the right thing to do for my career because I have been in and out for quite some time because of injuries. I felt like I was okay, and I could play, but it didn't happen at the time when I was doing well.

Somebody else was playing and I had to support them. It was the right time to ask to play elsewhere where the coach (Cardoso) would get to see more of me in a different team and what I am really about.

TM: Sure...

LM: That was the main reason behind it; to fall in love with the game, enjoy what I am doing, and see myself on the pitch doing what I love.

TM: Had you fallen out of love with the game?

History tells us we can beat Mexico

Bafana Bafana are in an exciting group and I think we have a good chance of going through to the next round, bearing in mind that we no longer have the so-called small countries in world football.

I'm not happy about it

Marumo Gallants may have fallen just short in the Carling Knockout Final, but their spirited run to the showpiece at a sold-out Peter Mokaba Stadium reminded many of the club's fighting identity.

Let's become role models

We live in an era where positive role models can be scarce, which means the next generation feels lost as there are no examples they can relate to in their immediate communities.
