SIPHELELE MAGUBANE - UPINGTON CITY

- By Mzoxolo Budaza

Thanks for your time Siphelele. Please remind our readers, who’s Siphelele, where did your professional football begin and where did you enjoy yourself the most? Siphelele Magubane was born in Mandeni, KZN, and my football career started at a very young age when I was about 14, 15 years old, if I am not mistaken. The year was 2008, and that’s when I joined the SuperSport United Academy. I really enjoyed my football when I was at Golden Arrows, but won't mention under which coach...

No problem. That's the time when I won my accolade for PSL Goal of the Season. It was a very special season for me because I was going through some stress, let me say difficulties, but managed to have a good season. That was the 2017/18 season.

Please tell us about some of your standout memories at Arrows.

The outstanding one for me was when we played BidVest Wits away, it was an MTN8 match and I got a concussion in the 31st minute. We were leading the match 1-0, if I am not mistaken, and the next thing I knew, I woke up in hospital. I immediately asked the nurse what the final score was, only to find out we lost on penalties. I couldn’t even remember how I got that concussion. That was funny at the same time.

Please tell us more, we want to hear more of those funny moments.

History tells us we can beat Mexico

Bafana Bafana are in an exciting group and I think we have a good chance of going through to the next round, bearing in mind that we no longer have the so-called small countries in world football.

I'm not happy about it

Marumo Gallants may have fallen just short in the Carling Knockout Final, but their spirited run to the showpiece at a sold-out Peter Mokaba Stadium reminded many of the club's fighting identity.

Let's become role models

We live in an era where positive role models can be scarce, which means the next generation feels lost as there are no examples they can relate to in their immediate communities.

Club vs country saga continues

As the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations approaches in Morocco, African coaches are vociferously criticising FIFA for permitting European clubs to release African stars only six days before kick off of the tournament.

Agents are very tricky

One moment a player is on the radar of the country's biggest clubs, the next he is fighting quietly for visibility, fitness, and a second chance.
