Can the Diarra rule affect Ribeiro?

Lucas Ribeiro Costa has shocked the football fraternity by requesting to terminate his contract with Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Brazilian is undertaking this course of action as a consequence of the amended transfer regulations by FIFA, following former France international Lassana Diarra's legal victory against the world football governing body in October 2024. Since the Paris native was successful in his proceedings, no player had exercised the new rules — until now. As a result of the reigning Premier Soccer League Footballer of the Year being the first professional to seek enforcement of the amended regulations, there is still a lot of ambiguity surrounding what is happening and what the potential ramifications could be. Soccer Laduma's Kamogelo Motecwane spoke to agents and sports lawyers from across the world to seek clarity on the matter and what it could mean for football contracts in the future.
first professional happens to ply his trade in South Africa: Lucas Ribeiro Costa.
Following several standout performances at the FIFA Club World Cup — where he won the award for the tournament's best goal — the Brazilian has attracted global interest. I enjoyed my time there
There are quite a number of players who moved to the Motsepe Foundation Championship from the Betway Premiership this season. This list includes the likes of Keagan Dolly, Njabulo Ngcobo, Veli Mothwa, Vusi Sibiya, Aphelele Teto, Fortune Makaringe and Justice Chabalala. After leaving Chippa United at the end of last season, Chabalala found a new home with newcomers Gomora United, but his journey at the club did not last very long. Towards the end of January, he asked for his clearance from club chairman Joe Seanego and he is now a free agent who is free to sign elsewhere outside the window period. Soccer Laduma's Tshepang Mailwane caught up with the former Orlando Pirates and Free State Stars defender to find out why he decided to leave Gomora.

Petersen's rebirth at Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs are keeping clean sheets for fun this season. After a paltry seven shutouts in 28 league matches last term, few could have foreseen the sort of defensive strength shown this season. Whilst tactics have played a part, as has the improved form of several defenders, one can't overlook goalkeeper Brandon Petersen's dramatic improvement. After 15 league fixtures, he has 11 clean sheets to
