Council house tenants in South Tyneside have potential rent increases limited under new rules from the Government.

Local councils were informed late on Wednesday of changes to the way councils can increase rents - just hours after the council announced it was planning 6.8% hike, in line with the previous Government guidelines.
Next week’s meeting of the council's Cabinet will now be considering a rent rise of 4.8 per cent
