Parents' anger over removal of safety barriers near school

FURIOUS parents say the removal of safety barriers at a crossing outside two Sevenoaks schools has left their children dangerously exposed.

They staged a protest last week after both the barriers and the overhead green man signal were removed on Worships Hill at the junction with Witches as part of work by Kent County Council to create the east to west cycling route in the town.

The crossing is between Riverhead Infants School and Amherst School.

Parents say the changes were made with no specific consultation with the schools and have left the busy A25 crossing dangerously exposed during school hours when large numbers of children and families use the road, which takes a large volume of traffic, including many HGVs.

Councillors have said reinstating the barriers is "critical", but Kent County Council have not said there are any plans to replace them.
