From construction sites to corporate events
Sentinel News
|March 13, 2026
This International Women’s Day, marked annually on March 8, Sentinel News shone a spotlight on Patience Gertse, a Hout Bay entrepreneur, who is making her mark in two challenging industries: construction and corporate events management.
Patience Gertse went from co-ordinating construction sites to major events using her own company.
"My journey reflects the growing impact of women who are shaping industries traditionally dominated by men," she said.
The Hangberg resident started her entrepreneurial career in construction, where she said women remain significantly underrepresented.
"At many construction sites where my company operated, Bayside Projects and Trading was often the only woman-owned construction company present. Navigating this environment required not only technical expertise but also determination, confidence, and a strong work ethic," Ms Gertse said.
Her ability to overcome challenges and lead in a competitive industry quickly set her apart as a respected businesswoman within her community.
