All you need to know about the Mayoral election

On Thursday, May 1, voters around the county will elect the first-ever Mayor of the newly-created Greater Lincolnshire Combined Authority.

The new Mayor role is part of the devolution deal signed off by the Government in September 2024.

The deal meant that the areas under the jurisdiction of North East Lincolnshire Council, North Lincolnshire Council and Lincolnshire County Council will receive an extra layer of governance in the form of the Greater Lincolnshire Combined Authority.

This does not mean that the councils are merging or being replaced by the Combined Authority, though the Government does want local government in Lincolnshire to be reorganised in the future which may see some areas eventually merged and could result in district council regions such as East Lindsey and West Lindsey combined with other areas.
