Police Scotland are left 582 cops short as training expires

NEARLY 600 police officers across Scotland are unable to be deployed due to heir safety training having expired, according to shocking new data.
Police Scotland figures show that as of August 2025, the training of 582 officers had expired.
When hired, all officers get seven days of initial operational safety training.
It includes conflict management, deescalation and tactical communications, in addition to training in operational safety measures.
The new figures show 4.2% of officers in the force have expired safety training.
Scottish Labour said the figures showed Police Scotland has been "hollowed out".
