Zelensky rejects Trump’s plan to control nuke plants
Scottish Daily Express
|March 21, 2025
UKRAINE president Volodymyr Zelensky has hit back at Donald Trump’s suggestion that the US could take control of his country's nuclear power plants as part of a ceasefire deal with Russia.
He insisted the infrastructure “belongs to the people of Ukraine” as he rejected the American leader's comments.
Mr Trump had suggested that a US takeover of the plants, particularly Russian-seized Zaporizhzhia, could protect them from attacks by Vladimir Putin’s forces.
But Mr Zelensky, right, said: “We will not discuss it. We have 15 nuclear power units in operation today. This all belongs to our state.”
However, he did suggest he was open to talks about the Americans investing in Zaporizhzhia.
Mr Zelensky also told EU chiefs Russia must stop making “unnecessary demands” that drag out the war.
And Sir Keir Starmer yesterday said he is “certain” Putin “will breach” a peace deal unless it is defended.
