Wives take worst financial hit in a marriage break-up

DIVORCE hurts everybody concerned – but when it comes down to finances women tend to come out of a broken marriage a lot worse than men.

Women typically see their household income cut by half in the year following a divorce, compared to less than a third for men, according to new research from insurance and retirement specialist L&G.

One in five women also struggle to afford to pay for essentials such as food and household bills, compared to just one in 10 men.
