THE promised return of summer brings with it myriad possibilities from barbeques to paddling on the beach.
But it also means the return of the midge - an insect that costs the economy £280million in lost revenue from tourists refusing to return here.
Despite this, the pest has become an iconic part of Scottish life. And so, why not celebrate it with its very own whisky?
Welcome to The Ardnamurchan Midgie, created especially to honour the loathed creature. Debuting in 2024 in a limited release, this year will see 16,500 bottles buzzing around the world.
Nuisances
It is a split of 75% unpeated spirit and 25% peated.
Like all of Ardnamurchan whiskies, the Midgie release is un-chill filtered and natural colour.
Located on coastline of the west highlands, the Ardnamurchan distillery is one of our remotest.
Each bottle comes with a QR code on the back label, letting you dive deep into the whisky's origins, cask breakdown and everything you didn't know you needed to know about one of nature's smallest but most persistent nuisances. Alex
