We're set for hottest ever summer

BRITAIN could be heading for its hottest summer since records began in 1884.

It will almost certainly eclipse that of 1976, when reservoirs ran dry and water was rationed through standpipes in the street.

Soaring temperatures and blue skies continued to dominate yesterday, with two weeks left until the meteorological summer ends, on Sunday, August 31.
