We're being made to feel like the bad ones, say veterans

CAMPAIGNERS have urged the Government to listen to veterans as it continues to pursue legislation that could leave them open to legal action decades after serving.

Hundreds of ex-services personnel descended on Westminster yesterday to protest ahead of a crucial debate affecting those who had spells of duty in Northern Ireland.

The Legacy Act was introduced by the Conservatives to protect veterans from spurious prosecutions but the Government is attempting to repeal the act over concerns about international law.

Terry McCourt MBE served in Northern Ireland with 2nd Battalion the Parachute Regiment and says veterans are worried even though their actions were within the law. He said: "You were deployed there for the good of the country but we are being made to feel like the bad ones."
