Cross-party concern over latest asylum seeker move

- BY DOUGLAS DICKIE

MILITARY veterans have reportedly been booted out of Cameron Barracks in Inverness to make way for hundreds of asylum seekers, with news of the move breaking on Remembrance Day.

The facility near Inverness city centre will be used to house around 300 male migrants, with the first numbers arriving next month.

The plans have sparked outrage in the community with fears it will make the area unsafe for young women and pile pressure on creaking local services.

A protest has been planned for this weekend.

And it has now emerged that the Cameron Barracks Regimental Association has been ordered to vacate the site ahead of the asylum seekers arriving.

According to the association's website, it exists to “promote the welfare of all veterans and foster esprit de corps, comradeship and interest amongst the veterans of all ranks and their families connected to the Queen’s Own Highlanders’.
