Swinney and SNP 'must apologise to women of Scotland'

JOHN SWINNEY has been warned he can no longer hide from the SNP’s stance on gender as pressure mounts on his government to issue an apology to the women of Scotland.

Social Justice Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville is expected to give a statement to Holyrood today in response to last week’s defeat in the Supreme Court.

The executive had spent taxpayer money fighting a legal challenge from campaign group For Women Scotland over the definition of woman in relation to gender equality on public boards.

Britain’s top judges ruled on Wednesday the terms “woman” and “sex” in the Equality Act 2010 “refer to a biological woman and biological sex”. It was a stinging rebuke of the Nationalist government and has prompted calls for Mr Swinney to apologise to women who protested against controversial gender reforms championed by Nicola Sturgeon.

The Gender Recognition Reform Bill of 2022 would have made it easier for biological men to ‘identify’ as women in law.
