PRESSURE is piling on John Swinney and Nicola Sturgeon from within their own party over their failure to take any responsibility for misleading trans people and women about single-sex spaces.

It follows new guidance being issued after a landmark Supreme Court ruling earlier this month that means single-sex facilities should be based on biology.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has said that “trans women (biological men) should not be permitted to use women's facilities” in areas such as hospitals, shops and restaurants.

It also added that transgender people should not be left with no facilities to use.

The new guidance comes after the Supreme Court ruled that the words “woman” and “sex” in the Equality Act refer to a biological woman and biological sex.
