Stone me! Time warp Victorian cobbled street revealed under large pothole

MOTORISTS are marvelling at a pothole which has opened up to reveal a sturdy Victorian road running under the tarmac.

The tired surface has crumbled on St Vincent Street in Birmingham, down to a section of the city's historic cobbled thoroughfares.

Drivers have since joked it's one of the “more fascinating potholes” they have encountered.

But others pointed out it shows the extent of the poor roads motorists are contending with.

Birmingham City Council said the “defect” - beside a bridge over a railway line - had been “noted” and was awaiting repairs.

Recruitment agency worker Karla Brindley, 33, who is a regular commuter into the city centre, was among those who spotted the blemish.
