Penguin babies get blue p-p-p-pedicures

ZOOKEEPERS have come up with a novel way to identify the penguins in their care - giving them blue pedicures.

Blackpool Zoo has welcomed a batch of Magellanic penguin chicks from their 23 adults — with two chicks per nest box.

But keepers checking on weight, health and development have struggled to tell which is which. They came up with a plan to paint blue nail varnish on the toes of one chick from each pair per box, so they can tell them apart.

Jason Keller, senior keeper, said: “We're delighted to have welcomed lots of new chicks to Penguin Cove.
