Northern Ireland 'to take hit on charges'

A MINISTER has refused to rule out suspending part of the Brexit treaty if the EU retaliates with reciprocal tariffs on the US.

The Windsor Framework, agreed between Rishi Sunak and Europe's Ursula von der Leyen in 2023, means that if the EU applies the retaliatory tariffs they will be applied to Northern Ireland as well - because it is legally part of the EU's customs area.

This would mean US goods entering NI costing more than those entering mainland Britain - damaging the cohesion of the UK economy.
