LIFE IN THE FAST LANE: McCowan wants to get back in the Champions League

- By Michael Gannon

MY BHOYHOOD DREAM BEGAN WITH SEVILLE

THE DVD has long been worn out but Luke McCowan was tickled to see an old photo of him sporting the Celtic kit they wore on the road to Seville more than two decades ago.

With that strip now gathering dust in his parents’ attic, he knows it’s time for a new top to be hung up and some fresh footage for the greatest hits collection.

It’s no secret the playmaker has always been Hoops daft and a reminder popped up online last week with a snap of him wearing the kit from Martin O’Neill’s team that reached the UEFA Cup final in 2003.

McCowan was just five years old but it was a special era for the club and he spent many an hour watching the video of an incredible run that featured epic wins over Liverpool, Blackburn and Celta Vigo before suffering heartache against Jose Mourinho’s Porto.

The playmaker would love to create some memories of his own this season as Celtic get set to kick off their Champions League odyssey against Kairat Almaty tomorrow night — and add to his kit collection.

McCowan said: “My mum and dad are hoarders so no doubt the strip is lying stinking in the loft somewhere!
