Mobile mix-up stresses out senior

PRESSED for 10 months to pay for a mobile phone service she had never had, Erin Metcalf is now off the hook and no longer fearing debt demands.

But it has been a tough time for the 80-year old who is not in the best of health. The cause was an accounts’ mix-up and then the failure to fix it as it spiralled alarmingly.

It began in August last year when Erin and her husband, like many keen to cut costs where possible, visited their local Currys store to inquire about a cheaper broadband deal.

"My husband who is the name on the account was advised to switch from BT/EE to Vodafone and he did so," says Erin. "We were both asked if we would like to add our mobile phones to the package and it seemed a good idea.
