Ministers urged to beat spread of early influenza cases

MINISTERS have been urged to take urgent action on the flu wave set to engulf Scottish hospitals. Last winter, Scotland had the highest number of flu deaths since 1979.
Some experts said the decision to withdraw free vaccinations for 50 to 64-year-olds had been at least partially to blame.
That decision has not been reversed, and there are also concerns about a shortage of vaccines this year.
Community Pharmacy Scotland said members were seeing increased demand for private jabs, and some were "out of stock".
