Dutchman roars to record but is an ‘idiot’ to Lando

- By Daniel Moxon

THE day after Max Verstappen officially became the fastest man in Formula One history, the Dutchman spearheaded the sport’s shortest race.

It took the Red Bull star just 1hr 13mins 23secs to reach the chequered flag.

The latest Italian Grand Prix was completed almost a full minute quicker than the 2003 Monza race that saw Michael Schumacher fly to victory.

Verstappen broke the lap record to beat both McLarens to pole but lost the lead straight away.

Lando Norris got the better start but went onto the grass, the Brit accusing fourtime champion Verstappen of pushing him off track. He was even more irate when McLaren gambled on a late safety car but when it didn’t come they pitted their drivers to leave Verstappen with little else to do than cruise to the finish line.
