HALF of schoolchildren in the UK have now seen absolutely atrocious, horrifying images on their smartphones. We're not just talking extreme pornography here. We're talking about the kind of real-life violence that would give even the most robust-minded of adults sleepless nights.

Millions of youngsters - many of them at primary school - have watched beheadings. Yes, beheadings... sometimes live executions in real time. Imagine that. (Or rather, try not to).

These images, once seen, cannot be unseen. The psychological damage being done is incalculable. And yet many children exposed to such horrors feel unable to talk to their parents about it.

Why? Because they think they'll have their phones confiscated. So they keep schtum, and try to bury the trauma as best they can.
