McGregor: First look told me Celts had a top talent

- BY RYAN McDONALD

KELE'S THE REAL DEAL

CALLUM McGREGOR knew from the moment he saw Kelechi Iheanacho kick a ball in training that Celtic had a special player.

Two goals in the Nigerian’s first four games has only convinced the Hoops captain that his first impressions were correct.

Iheanacho’s arrival 24 hours after deadline day summed up a chaotic window for Celtic.

But after ripping up his contract at Sevilla to answer an SOS from manager Brendan Rodgers, Iheanacho might well prove to be the real deal.

A last-minute penalty winner capped off a dream debut at Kilmarnock - before a super-sub showing against Red Star in Belgrade got Celts off the mark in the Europa League.

Iheanacho, 28, did draw a blank against Hibs at the weekend but still found the right positions.

And McGregor reckons the ex-Manchester City prodigy could be the perfect fit for the champions.

He said: “He's obviously scored a couple of goals already. But you could see it in training.

“The first time I saw him, you know. You can just tell by the way people hit the ball that you think, ‘Right, he can play’.

“He's got a big pedigree, he’s played at big clubs, and played with the manager at Leicester as well. And you can see he’s a good player.
