'I told Macron we'd play fair over the Battle of Hastings'

JAMES Norton has revealed he told President Emmanuel Macron that his BBC drama about the Battle of Hastings will be “fair in depicting both sides of the story”.

The former Happy Valley actor, who plays English king Harold Godwinson, said he met the French leader at a British Museum event.

The Bayeux Tapestry is being displayed there from September 2026 to July 2027.

The 224ft-long embroidery depicts the Norman invasion and 1066 Battle Of Hastings.

Masterpiece

Harold II was killed there by an army led by William, Duke of Normandy, who then took the throne as the first Norman king of England William the Conqueror.

The fragile narrative artwork is to return to Britain after more than 900 years.
