Gray wants to know why Richardson's handball didn't give his side a chance to claim late winner

DAVID GRAY wants answers after Hibs were denied a last-gasp penalty in their stalemate with St Mirren.

Striker Thibault Klidje’s shot hit the raised arms of Buddies wing back Jayden Richardson deep into injury time.

Referee Matthew MacDermid halted the game with the four minutes of injury time up so VAR could review the incident.

Following a lengthy delay, the official blew the final whistle after being told he did not need to go to the monitor.

Gray also had questions over why St Mirren's opener from Miguel Freckleton was allowed to stand and has urged the authorities to provide clarity over both decisions.

Gray, who watched Rocky Bushiri level for a Hibs team that played their 10th game in little over amonth following gruelling Euro schedule, said: “One thing I don't like doing is ever using excuses for refereeing decisions.

“There are always areas in which we can do better in moments within the game.

“I don't blame the referee at all. I think he’s someone that gets one chance to see it and it happens that quickly.

“Sometimes you can tell by the players’ reaction round about that something's happened and I think that’s why VAR has been brought in.

“It's been brought in to help the referees, to assist them, to make sure they get the opportunity to put something right.

“I would probably ask the question why he wasn’t asked to go and see the screen because I think the hand is away from his body - it is high.
