Neighbours icon Jason Donovan tells us why making a special cameo appearance in Emmerdale "felt right

Neighbours legend Jason Donovan is back in Soapland - making a special cameo appearance in Emmerdale.

The much-loved performer swapped Ramsay Street for the Yorkshire Dales and will play himself even belting out his hit song Too Many Broken Hearts in The Woolpack.

While the cast were thrilled to have the I'm A Celebrity star and stage actor on board, Jason insists that it was just as much fun for him.

In the episodes, he will surprise superfan Lydia Dingle (Karen Blick) with a concert in the village pub, after she misses out on tickets to his gig. The Especially For You singer, 57, loved the storyline mapped out for him as it reflects his real life.

"A surprise gig is organised for Lydia by Kim Tate," explains Jason. "I felt this was a good reason as I tend to do a lot of things for fans privately - you know, videos of support, whether they're going through tough times, whether it's for birthdays, you know, this sort of felt in that mould. It's sort of getting up and making someone's day, which I really enjoy doing."
