'That was wild' rages McGinn as he slams Robertson over moving ball before first goal

HURTING Motherwell captain Paul McGinn labelled ref Don Robertson's blunder for St Mirren's semifinal opener “wild”.

And the 35-year-old reckons it was “just a nonsense” the goal was left to stand as Alex Gogic played a long free-kick over the top when clearly the ball was still moving.

It culminated in a corner, which Mikael Mandron netted from, and McGinn reckoned Robertson was unable to dig himself out of the hole he had created.

The Steelmen knew that was a game changer, giving Saints a cushion to protect as they went on to clinch a Premier Sports Cup showpiece with Celtic thanks to a 4-1 result.

McGinn said: “The first goal was vital. It meant they could just sit on the edge of their box and kick it long to their two big guys up front.

“We were already at a disadvantage physically, so we needed to be better on the ball than them which we weren't.

“They got help for the first goal, which was wild. I didn’t think it was a foul in the first place and then the ball is clearly moving.

“Don was waiting for the VAR to help clean it up instead of just doing it himself. Then it went for a corner and he couldn't clean it up.

“It was just a nonsense. Just ref it like you think it is and don’t worry about getting into trouble with whoever's analysing you.

“Before the corner I went to speak to him about it because it put them through on goal.
