Country 'is not immune from sewage crisis engulfing UK'

THE SNP have been told to stop “pretending that Scotland is immune from the sewage scandal”, after a damning report into the water industry in England and Wales.

The report by Sir Jon Cunliffe, a former Bank of England deputy governor, will lead to the scrapping of “failed” water regulator Ofwat.

Campaigners slammed Sir John for missing a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reset a broken and corrupted system. The SNP responded by saying the UK Government should “simply copy Scotland and bring [the water industry] into public ownership”.

Scottish Lib Dem leader Alex Cole Hamilton insisted there was no room for complacency here.

In Scotland there were 24,398 sewage dumps recorded in 2024.

This is likely to be a significant underestimate because monitoring is less rigourous here than in England.
