ENGLISH heat will spark Scottish lightning today as a heatwave down south ignites dramatic thunderstorms north of the border.

- By Paul Drury

The atmosphere is being warmed by high temperatures in England, pushing a series of weather systems northwards.

After clammy conditions yesterday, a 10-hour yellow warning for rain is in place for most of Scotland today, lasting from 11am until 9pm, when a danger is expected to come from lightning strikes.

The Met Office say there is also a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing “a danger to life”.
