Bus maker's move south blamed on 'lack of orders'

NEWS that Scottish bus builder Alexander Dennis is set to move all its UK manufacturing work to a single site in England with the loss of around 400 jobs here has been blamed on ministers “not placing enough orders”.

The firm said it was looking at “consolidating its UK bus body manufacturing operations” to Scarborough, Yorkshire.

This would mean its manufacturing facility in Falkirk — which Alexander Dennis said had “already been reduced in recent years” — would close.

In addition, the company said the production lines in Larbert, where it also has its global headquarters, would be suspended when current contracts are completed.
