TADHG BEIRNE knew his Lions career was on the line ahead of Saturday's win over the Wallabies but the Irishman delivered. Flanker Beirne was a marginal pick over England's Ollie Chessum before taking the man of the match award after the 27-19 victory on Australia. Beirne admitted he was feeling the heat after social media trolls said he and England ace Tom Curry should not have been picked by boss Andy Farrell. But Beirne and Curry delivered and look certainties to start this Saturday's second Test in Melbourne.

Beirne brings his A game to shut up trolls

TADHG BEIRNE knew his Lions career was on the line ahead of Saturday's win over the Wallabies but the Irishman delivered.

Beirne said: “I felt the pressure, I’m not going to lie.

“There are some things you can’t shy away from with lots of people calling for your head out there.

“I know my performances to date weren’t up to par by my standards.

“So Faz has put a lot of trust in me.
