More and more living to 100
THE number of centenarians in Scotland has topped 1,000 for the first time.
The total of Scots thought to have made it to their 100th birthday has risen from 180 in 1981 with the total increasing most years since then.
Latest research shows by mid-2024 there were an estimated 1,020 people across the country aged 100 or more.
The data from the National Records of Scotland (NRS) revealed it was the sixth consecutive annual increase.
