Philadelphia City Council and healthcare leaders URGE Senate to KILL One Big Beautiful Bill

Many Congressional seats will be up for grabs in the 2026 elections, and voters in Pennsylvania and throughout the country will have the power to hold lawmakers accountable for any decisions they make that are not in the best interest of the American taxpayer.

The current administration's “Big Beautiful Bill” is definitely not in the best interest of the American population.

Philadelphia City Council President Kenyatta Johnson, Councilmember Dr. Nina Ahmad, Chair of City Council Public Health and Human Services Committee, Councilmembers Jamie Gauthier, Rue Landau, and Quetcy Lozada stood in Council Chambers with key leaders in healthcare, public policy, and community advocacy to denounce the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), that was passed in the US House on May 22, 2025, and is now being considered by the US Senate and it's expected that the US Senate will take a final vote on the before July 4.

Council President Johnson said, “The OBBBA would have a devastating impact on Philadelphia and Pennsylvania by leaving our most vulnerable residents at risk. I stand united with our healthcare workers and hospital leaders in protecting the well-being of our most vulnerable neighbors. It is sweeping overreach that puts politics over people.”

Approval of OBBBA would mean billions of dollars in cuts that could strip people of basic services, including health insurance and care for almost 15 million Americans, the largest cut to healthcare in American history.
