Why not challenge yourself to a microadventure on a budget of R500?

For some, planning an extravagant holiday might be a distant dream as they try to save a rand or two wherever possible. However, as the seasons change, taking a mental break through a micro-adventure or a weekend getaway is essential for rejuvenation.

You may have come across the R100 challenge on TikTok, where users challenge themselves to see how much food they can buy for a certain amount. Well, why not challenge yourself to a microadventure, with a budget of R500?

According to the Southern Africa Tourism Services Association (Satsa), their recent adventure tourism research, based on insights from nearly 7000 respondents, reveals that over 30% of local adventure travellers spend under R500 per person per day.

The primary reasons for travel are closely aligned: relaxation (21.2%), family time (21.1%) and adventure (20.3%).

When it comes to accommodation, self-catering options (21.2%) and bed and breakfasts (17.4%) are the most popular choices, with value for money being the top deciding factor.
