Early poll trends show Albania's Socialists leading

Preliminary results from Albania's parliamentary elections suggest that the ruling Socialist Party, led by Prime Minister Edi Rama, is poised for victory, garnering 53% of the votes counted so far.

The opposition, headed by the centre-right Democratic Party coalition, led by Sali Berisha, trails significantly with 35 per cent. With these numbers, the Socialists are expected to achieve the 71 seats required for an outright majority in the 140-seat assembly.
