150-bedroom hotel and 450 new homes in ambitious plan for former stadium site

A bold new £500 million vision to strengthen land in Rutherglen has been unveiled with plans for a hotel and hundreds of homes delivering a proposition to “connect, collaborate and create”.

Clyde Gateway unveiled their proposals at the UK Real Estate Investment & Infrastructure Forum (UKREiiF) in Leeds.

A 150-bedroom hotel and 450 homes have been proposed for the redevelopment of the former Shawfield Stadium in Rutherglen.

The urban regeneration company say that the new ‘Clyde Gateway Innovation’ initiative will transform more than 100 hectares - equivalent to the size of over 130 football pitches of prime development land in South Lanarkshire and Glasgow's east end into a “dynamic, mixed-use ecosystem designed to create high-value jobs, deliversustainable business growth and sustain increased inward investment”.

The masterplan, supported by South Lanarkshire Council, Glasgow City Council, Scottish Enterprise and key academic institutions including the University of Strathclyde, features a development-ready pipeline of commercial and industrial opportunities across high-value manufacturing (HVM), R&D, sci-tech, health and life sciences, and other sectors.
